Van den Berg and BESIX Infra join forces

The Terbekehof industrial estate is being equipped with a 1.6-kilometre heat network, which will be fed by sustainable residual heat from ISVAG’s.waste-to-energy plant. Businesses connected to the network will no longer have to rely on fossil fuels. The resulting reduction in emissions will undoubtedly have a positive impact on CO₂ emissions and air quality in the local area.

Heat networks are gaining in popularity in Belgium and focus primarily on exploiting residual heat. You could think of a heat network as a domestic central heating system on a massive scale, where each connected home or business represents a heating element (i.e. a radiator). Two pipes are being laid: one to supply hot water from ISVAG’s incinerator and one to transport the cooled water back.

This project is drawing on the combined expertise of BESIX Infra and Van den Berg. The first step in the process is to discuss the working method. When BESIX Infra has to dig a trench for the sewer system, for example, Van den Berg will provide additional guidance needed to facilitate construction of the heat network. The excellent collaboration that BESIX Infra and Van den Berg have enjoyed over many years makes these companies a successful team!
